The iPod Elite

Joshua Lane / / 10 Comments

I live about 6 blocks or so from where I work. Naturally I walk the distance. Why wouldn’t I, it’s SIX BLOCKS, that’s NOTHING! Besides, driving would be ridiculous… not to mention the complete lack of parking at work and the fact that my car is ALREADY 1 block away.

Anyways. During my walk, I pass all sorts of people… some normal, some crazy, some a little in between. Without fail, 5 or 6 of them will be listening to music on an iPod. And since I do the exact same (iPod shuffle), there’s always some sort of glance or nod exchanged. Like we’re part of some special club with a secret handshake and everything. I just wonder if there’s a headquarters or something… maybe a secret fort? You know, the one with the sign that says “NO GIRLS ALLOWED”. Except in our fort it says, “No iPod, No Admittance”.

Not another one. It’s like you iPod users are part of some clique. My brother bought one the other day, after a week of agonizing over what to have etched on it (he decided on some pretentiously obscure latinism). Now he and his iPod cronies comiserate over on just how hard it is finding 16GB worth of songs to fill up the thing. Meanwhile, I’m stuck with a 64MB Creative Nomad. There’s no justice in the world. :P

Speaking of which, you know what would be cool, Josh? A regular Animated/DVD Bliss podcast, where staff discuss new releases, talk news and reviews, and answer questions.

And now, off I go to ponder the world’s injustice and figure out how I can fit an iPod Photo into my budget. :)

I’ve actually thought about this, but wasn’t sure how I’d go about orchestrating such a thing. I’d have to get a mic, audio recording software, etc. I decided to not worry about it considering the magazine idea is still at the top of my list.

Any Jeep Wrangler owner has experienced the same phenomenon. A small wave or nod whenever you pass another one on the road. How come my wife doesn’t nod approvingly to me when I blast Rush’s 2112?

Hehe. I experienced a similar thing when i recently bought my own iPod. For some reason i kept looking up peoples headphones, becuase you can recognisably notice who has an one that way by the distinct headphone design.

@joshualane, if you are serious about that podcast let me know. I too will have a magazine available in the future it would be great to network with you.

Some just don’t appreciate the genius that is Rush? … uh, yeah, that’s it :|

LOL wow i do excatly the same thing! If I see that someone is wearing headphones ill just look at the earbud and you can tell right away if its an ipod! Whenever i have mine its usually on my belt under my shirt so not many people can see it. It would be sort of wierd if everytime i saw someone with an ipod and nodded my head if they have no idea what im talking about. LOL

I actually don’t have an iPod yet. I wish I did. If I can manage to save up for one I think I might try to get one sometime this year. For those that have them would you reccommend a regular iPod or one of those new Shuffle iPods?

Well I had the same dilema when choosing my iPod mini, howeveri wieghed the pros and cons and came the conclusion that an iPod mini was best for me.

This was based on, an ipod shuffle doesn’t have a display screen, i wouldn’t be able to select exactly what is i want to play, and an iPod mini is made out of a gorgeous aliminium metal. iPod mini’s arent that big either, for saying they can hold up to 6gbs.

yeah i prob would never get the shuffle just becuase it seems like a gimick. Any mp3 player can shuffle songs. Plus its like a reg ipod except its cheaper cause it has no screen and way less space.
