Farewell Cruel Corporate World

Joshua Lane / / 4 Comments

Exactly 1 week ago I turned in my resignation at the day job. My last day will be Friday, October 27th and I couldn’t be happier! I’m sure some of you are wondering, “Did you get a new job?”, “Are you going to work for Happy Cog Philadelphia like all the other former Pixelworthy employees?” The answer to those questions (in order) is “maybe (crossing my fingers)” and “nope”.

For the immediate future, I’m going to try my hand at some good old fashioned freelance. I also plan on taking some time to redesign (plus add a blog to it), re-build (using Amazon’s API), and hopefully finish work on an “official” company site to tie all this stuff together.

It’s all pretty exciting and frightening at the same time. On the one hand, I don’t have a lot of money saved up and I probably won’t last long on the freelance projects I currently have. On the other hand, I’m really looking forward to spending some time on my own projects and seeing how far I can take them. Maybe this will all be for naught and I’ll land a full-time job in a matter of weeks. Or maybe I’ll be surviving on Ramen and Mac & Cheese for a while. Either way, it’s like a grand adventure. A scary, possibly bankrupting adventure!

I took the plunge a couple months ago (albeit nudged), and it has been really rewarding. Not making much money yet, but doing what I love, and the hours I want, and working from home is worth every minute.
